How Much Influence Does Israel Have Over U.S. Elected Officials?

Bernie Sanders’ 2020 national campaign director Analilia Mejia beat AIPAC-backed candidate Tom Malinowski in NJ’s recent special election

As mid-term season ramps up, important primary races are underway in Texas and Illinois. The midterm elections will potentially reshape the U.S. Congress, making it critical to understand how important the outcomes are for Israel and its powerful slate of U.S. lobbying groups.

“We expect to be involved in dozens of races both in primaries and general elections this cycle,” said Patrick Dorton, a spokesman for AIPAC’s affiliated super PAC, the United Democracy Project (UDP).

According to Track AIPAC, there are currently only 21 members of U.S. Congress who have never accepted money from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC, the largest pro-Israel PAC in the US) or other pro-Israel lobby groups. The remaining 514 sitting members have all accepted varying amounts of fundraising money from pro-Israel lobbyists.

With the Illinois primary just two days away, AIPAC has spent more than $1.9 million on ads to replace retiring Rep. Danny Davis with Melissa Conyears-Ervin, the city treasurer of Chicago. She faces over a dozen other candidates in the upcoming primary. And IL Sen. Dick Durbin is retiring after more than 30 years in office, with three top Democratic candidates vying for his seat.

Durbin received more than $2.7 million in pro-Israel donations over his decades in office. Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, who accepted more than $1.7 million in pro-Israel donations, is vying for his seat along with Rep. Robin Kelly, the recipient of just over $368,000 from Israeli lobbies and Lt. Governor Juliana Stratton, who has received just over $248,000.

U.S. Democratic Reps. Jan Schakowsky and Jesus “Chuy” Garcia are also retiring. Schakowsky has received more than $2.5 billion from Israeli lobbyists while Garcia hasn’t received any and rejects AIPAC. Dozens of Democrats are vying for those seats, with AIPAC playing an increasingly bigger role in candidates’ platforms.

Schakowsky, once a staunch supporter of Israel, has increasingly become critical of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the war in Gaza and recently withdrew her support of Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller to succeed her. Miller has pulled in more than $3.3 million in AIPAC-related donations. “Illinois deserves leaders who put voters first, not AIPAC or out-of-state Trump donors,” said Schakowsky. She endorsed Evanston Mayor Daniel Bliss instead, who has received just over $288,000 in pro-Israel funding.

The Texas Senate primaries have yielded tight races for Democrats and Republicans alike, with AIPAC once again playing a key role. James Talarico, who received just over $23,000 from pro-Israel interests, will face an as yet to be determined Republican challenger. Incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, who has accepted more than $2 million from AIPAC and other Israeli interests, is being challenged by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who received just over $53,000 from Israeli lobbyists.

The Republican primary was so close that the two candidates will face a runoff on May 26. Paxton’s success puts President Donald Trump in a sticky position. Trump himself has received more than $230 million from Israeli groups and it was expected he would endorse Israel’s candidate, Cornyn. But Paxton has gained traction within the MAGA movement, and Trump risks alienating his voters by endorsing Cornyn. Talarico’s popularity has been rising with some predicting he may turn one of Texas’s Senate seats blue for the first time in 33 years.

AIPAC and its offshoots began to ramp up spending during the 2022 midterms, shelling out more than $221 million between December of 2021 and January of 2026.

Their strategy has not always paid off though, as was the case in the recent Democratic primary special election in New Jersey. Israeli lobbyists spent more than $378,000 pushing former Rep. Tom Malinowski for a House seat. He was defeated by progressive candidate Analilia Mejia, who has been openly critical of Israel.

  1. Honestly impressed, did not expect to find this level of care on the topic, and a stop at smartlivingmarket cemented the impression, you can tell within the first few paragraphs whether a site is going to be worth the time and this one delivered on that early promise nicely throughout the rest of what I read.

  2. Well structured and easy to read, that combination is rarer than people think, and a stop at findyourdirection confirmed the same standard runs across the rest of the site, definitely the kind of place I will be coming back to when this topic comes up in conversation later again over the weeks ahead.

  3. Bookmark folder reorganised slightly to make this site easier to find, and a look at yourdailyshopping earned the same accessibility upgrade, the small organisational moves I make for sites I expect to return to often are themselves a signal of how much I trust them and this site triggered those moves naturally.

  4. Thanks for keeping things clear and to the point, that is honestly hard to find online these days, and after reading through modernfashionzone the message stayed consistent which makes me trust the information being shared more than I usually do on similar pages that cover this same kind of topic.

  5. Reading this in the morning set a good tone for the day, and a quick visit to bestseasonfinds kept that good tone going, content can do that sometimes when it hits the right notes and finding sites that consistently strike that tone is something I have learned to recognise and reward with regular visits.

  6. Reading this fit naturally into my afternoon walk because I was reading on my phone, and a stop at happyshoppingcorner continued well in that walking format, content that survives mobile reading without becoming awkward is content with format flexibility and this site has clearly thought about how it reads across different devices today.

  7. Reading the writers other posts after this one suggests the quality is consistent rather than peak, and a stop at trendandbuyworld confirmed the consistent quality reading, sites that hold the same level across many pieces rather than peaking on a few are sites with sustainable editorial discipline and this one has clearly developed that.

  8. Looking back on this reading session it stands as one of the better ones recently, and a look at modernfashioncorner extended that ranking, the informal ranking of reading sessions against each other is something I do mentally and this session ranks high largely because of this site and a couple of related pages here.

  9. Really like that there are no exclamation marks or all caps shouting throughout the post, and a quick visit to findbetterdeals maintained the same calm voice, restraint in punctuation signals confidence in the content and this site clearly trusts its substance to do the persuading rather than relying on typographic emphasis.

  10. Looking back on this reading session it stands as one of the better ones recently, and a look at startdreamingbig extended that ranking, the informal ranking of reading sessions against each other is something I do mentally and this session ranks high largely because of this site and a couple of related pages here.

  11. Worth flagging that this approach to the topic is fresh without being contrarian, and a stop at shopwithdelight extended the same fresh angle, finding original perspective on familiar subjects is rare and this site has clearly developed its own way of seeing rather than echoing the dominant takes from elsewhere consistently.

  12. My usual pattern is to skim and bounce but this site has reset that pattern temporarily, and a stop at smartbuyzone maintained the slower reading mode, content that changes how I read is content with structural influence and this site has clearly nudged my reading behaviour toward something better at least for the duration of these visits.

  13. Appreciate the work that went into laying this out so clearly, every section earns its place without filler, and a look at uniquegiftcenter confirmed the same care, definitely the kind of place that deserves a return visit when the topic comes up again later in the future or for any related question.

  14. Approaching this site through a casual link click and being surprised by what I found, and a look at learnandshine extended the surprise, the rare experience of stumbling into excellent independent content rather than predictable mediocrity is one of the actual remaining pleasures of casual web browsing and this site provided it cleanly.

  15. The tone stayed consistent across the whole post which is harder than it looks for longer pieces, and a look at urbanwearcollection continued the same voice, this kind of editorial consistency is a sign of either a single careful writer or a tightly run team and either is impressive today across the broader media environment.

  16. Looking at this objectively the editorial quality is hard to deny even setting aside personal taste, and a stop at timbergroveoutlet maintained the same objective quality, the gap between what I personally enjoy and what is objectively well crafted exists and this site clears both bars simultaneously which is rarer than it sounds.

  17. Reading this prompted me to dig into a related topic later, and a stop at findyourwayforward provided some of the starting points for that follow up reading, content that triggers further exploration rather than satisfying curiosity completely is content with real generative energy and this site has plenty of that energy throughout it.

  18. Really clear writing, the kind that makes you want to share the link with someone who has been asking about the topic, and a quick browse through createpositivechange only made me more sure of that, the information here stays useful long after the first read is done which says a lot.

  19. If patience for careful reading is rare these days finding sites that reward it is rarer still, and a stop at wildhorizontrends extended that rare reward, the diminishing returns on shallow content reading have made me more selective about where to spend reading time and this site is meeting the higher selectivity bar consistently.

  20. Came across this through a roundabout path and now it is on my regular rotation, and a stop at findpeaceandpurpose sealed that decision, the open web still produces serendipitous discoveries when you let the citations and references guide you rather than relying purely on algorithmic feeds for new content recommendations always.

  21. Reading this felt easy in the best way, no friction and no confusion at any point, and a stop at dreambelievegrow carried that same comfort across more pages, the kind of editorial flow that lets you absorb information without fighting the format which is increasingly hard to find on the open web today across topics.

  22. Now recognising the specific pleasure of reading writing that shows real care for sentence shapes, and a look at ironlinemarket extended that craft pleasure, sentence level writing quality is something most blog content ignores entirely and this site has clearly invested in the prose layer alongside the substance which is rare today.

  23. Now recognising the specific pleasure of reading writing that shows real care for sentence shapes, and a look at creativechoicecorner extended that craft pleasure, sentence level writing quality is something most blog content ignores entirely and this site has clearly invested in the prose layer alongside the substance which is rare today.

  24. If I had encountered this site five years ago I would have been telling everyone about it, and a look at cozycabincreations extended that retrospective enthusiasm, the version of me who used to recommend favourite blogs frequently would have made sure friends knew about this one and that earlier enthusiasm is partially returning to me here.

  25. Useful information presented in a way that does not feel like a sales pitch, that is what I appreciated most, and a stop at purefashionchoice was the same, no upsell and no fake urgency just steady content laid out properly for someone trying to actually learn from it rather than just be sold to.

  26. Bookmark earned and folder updated to track this site separately, and a look at happychoicecorner confirmed the folder upgrade was the right call, organising my reading list so that good sites do not get lost in a sea of casual bookmarks is something I do more carefully now and this site warranted its own spot.

  27. Really liked the calm tone running through the post, no shouting and no urgency forced into the writing, and a look at findyouranswers kept that quiet confidence going, the kind of voice that makes the reader feel respected rather than yelled at which is depressingly common across most modern blog content these days.

  28. Reading this gave me a small refresher on something I had partially forgotten, and a stop at majesticgrovers extended the refresher, content that strengthens existing knowledge rather than just adding new is content with a particular kind of consolidating value and this site is providing that consolidating function across multiple visits.

  29. Generally I do not leave comments but this post merits a small note, and a stop at softstoneoffering extended that comment worthy quality, the urge to actively contribute to a sites community rather than passively consume from it is something specific content provokes and this site has provoked that engagement urge from me today.

  30. Good quality through and through, no rough edges and no signs of being rushed, and a quick look at timelessstyleplace kept the same polish going, the kind of site that respects its own brand by maintaining consistency across pages which is something I always appreciate as a reader looking for trustworthy information online today.

  31. Now feeling that this site is the kind I want to make sure does not disappear, and a look at yourdailyfinds reinforced that quiet protective feeling, the rare sites whose disappearance would actually matter to me are the sites I want to support through return visits and recommendations and this one has joined that small protected list.

  32. Took a screenshot of one section to come back to later, and a stop at bestpickshub prompted another saved tab, the urge to capture and revisit specific pieces of content is something I rarely feel but when I do it tells me the work is worth more than the average passing read for sure.

  33. Just sat with this for a bit longer than I usually would because the points are worth thinking about, and after growwithdetermination I had even more to chew on, the kind of post that nudges your thinking forward without forcing the issue is something I have always appreciated in good writing online.

  34. Now feeling that this site is the kind I want to make sure does not disappear, and a look at briskpost reinforced that quiet protective feeling, the rare sites whose disappearance would actually matter to me are the sites I want to support through return visits and recommendations and this one has joined that small protected list.

  35. Genuine reaction is that this site clicked with how I like to read, and a look at learnsomethingdaily kept that comfortable fit going, sometimes you find a place online whose editorial decisions just align with your preferences and when that happens it is worth recognising and supporting through repeat engagement consistently going forward.

  36. Skipped the TLDR thinking I would read everything anyway, and ended up enjoying the path through the full post, and a stop at fashionvaluecorner similarly rewarded the patient read, summaries are useful but the journey through good writing is part of what makes the destination feel earned rather than just delivered cleanly.

  37. Liked the way the post got out of its own way, and a stop at simplegiftmarket extended that invisible craft, the best writing you barely notice while reading because it is doing its work without drawing attention to itself and this site has clearly mastered that disappearing act across the pieces I have read.

  38. Honest assessment is that this is one of the better short reads I have had this week, and a look at shoptheday reinforced that, the bar for short content is low because most of it sacrifices substance for brevity but this site manages both at once which is harder than it sounds for most writers attempting it.

  39. Glad I clicked through from where I did because this turned out to be worth the time spent, and after finduniqueoffers I had a fuller picture, the kind of content that earns its visitors through delivering value rather than chasing them through aggressive advertising or constant pop ups appearing everywhere on the screen lately.

  40. Bookmark earned, calendar reminder set, share queued, all from one good post, and a look at urbanseedcenter did the same, when a single reading session triggers multiple downstream actions you know the content has actually moved me beyond the page and this site is moving me at that higher level reliably.

  41. Honestly this hits the sweet spot between detail and brevity, no rambling and no shortcuts, and a quick visit to trendysaleoutlet kept that going across the related pages, the kind of place that respects your attention without trying to grab it through cheap tactics or attention seeking design choices that get tired fast.

  42. Came in expecting another generic take and got something with actual character instead, and a look at yourjourneycontinues carried that personality forward, finding a distinct voice on a saturated topic is impressive and worth pointing out when it happens because most sites end up sounding identical to their nearest competitors quickly.

  43. Came back to this an hour later to reread a specific section, and a quick visit to sunwaveessentials also drew a second look, content that pulls you back rather than letting you move on permanently is the kind I want to fill my browser bookmarks with in 2026 and beyond as the open internet evolves.
